Pregnancy is very important for all women who want a baby and also for those who don’t because it can change everybody’s life, therefore they have to know if they are pregnant or not as early as possible. Nowadays, you have two fairly sure possibilities to find out: clinic pregnancy tests and home pregnancy tests, but most women prefer home tests instead of clinic ones because of their lower price and because they offer them the possibility to find out about their possible pregnancy in the privacy of their own homes.

As most women choose to take a home pregnancy test, they have to handle it alone, therefore there are some frequent questions that raise. One of the most important and frequent questions is: When can I take a pregnancy test?, which actually means when to take it so that I get an accurate result.

First of all, if you want the most accurate result you should follow the doctors’ recommendation and take the test 2 weeks after ovulation, which means 2 weeks after the moment you think you have conceived. Of course that for an accurate result you can also follow the test directions, most of those home tests recommending to take it the day you have missed your period, that if your period’s missing. (they actually recommend this moment because most women decide to take a pregnancy test only when their period’s missing, and those tests offer them the possibility to find out the truth the first day they start wondering).

Of course that you can take a test earlier than the doctors’ recommendation, but you should take it correctly, following exactly the test instructions, and at a proper time. To better understand what could be a proper time you should know how these tests work, and it’s very simple: they have to detect the hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in a woman’s body(in her urine), hormone which appears in her body only if she is pregnant (or if she takes some medicines which contains it). This hCG(known as pregnancy hormone), is produced by the placenta after the implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterine wall, which occurs 6 days after ovulation. So, in those first 6 days, it’s almost impossible to detect hCG in your body even if you are pregnant, therefore it’s useless to take a pregnancy test at that moment because you will get an inaccurate result for sure.

As a conclusion, regarding the question “When can I take a pregnancy test?”, there could be two possible answers: 7th day after ovulation – if you want to know the earliest moment you could get an accurate result and 2 weeks after ovulation – if you want to know the moment you get the most accurate result.
