The earliest pregnancy test
The most chosen and handy way to find out if you are pregnant or not is to take a home pregnancy test, because it gives you the possibility of finding out the truth from the privacy of your own home, without taking the time or spending the money for a clinic test.
Taking a home pregnancy test is fairly simple and that is thanks to its detailed instructions. In a nutshell, all you have to do is to hold the test stick under your urine stream for 5 seconds and then to wait for 2-3 minutes to read the result. Reading the test result is also very simple: look it into the results window and if you see a single line that means you are not pregnant; if you can see two lines that means you are pregnant.
Of course that most women are very anxious to find out the truth and they want to take the test as early as possible. So, which is the earliest moment? For a better understanding, you should know how a home pregnancy test works: they have to detect the presence and levels of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in a woman’s body, exactly in her urine. This hormone, known as the pregnancy hormone, arises in a woman’s body only if she is pregnant (unless she doesn’t take some drugs which contains hCG). It is produced by the placenta after a fertilized egg implants in uterine wall and this implantation does not take place until 6 days before ovulation.
Knowing that the hCG appears in a woman’s body 6 days after the moment you think you have conceived, it is useless to take a test in this period (because there is no hCG to detect and your test result will probably be a negative one even if you are pregnant). So, as the hCG starts to be produced from the seventh day after ovulation, we can say that the earliest day you can take the test, having the possibility of getting an accurate result, is the 7th one. But women have various types of bodies which act differently, so some women may get an accurate result while others may not. If you are not sure of your test result, re-test after a few days.
If you want to be sure that your test result is an accurate one you should take the doctors’ advice and take the test 2 weeks after ovulation (or 6 days after the moment you think you have conceived). Also, for an accurate result, you can follow the test instructions which indicate you to take it the day you have missed your period.
