When the skin is stretched beyond its natural elasticity it causes a form of scarring called stretch marks. Most women who have children have to deal with stretch marks and although you cannot completely stop them from happening there are things you can do to reduce their impact. This article has some preventative steps you can take to improve the elasticity of your skin and make it stronger(meaning it will deal with the stretching better and help lessen their appearance).
Here are a few tips to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy:
• Eating lots of fruits and vegetables will help as they provide the skin with nutrients and help it stay elastic. Eat foods that have lots of calcium, vitamins, whole grains and proteins.
• Supplements or vitamins to get in your diet are Vitamins A and E, Silica and Zinc. They help the skin stretch without tissue breaking and making dead skin. Talk further with your doctor.
• Drink drink drink. Water that is. Water will keep you and your skin hydrated and keeps moisture in the skin which means it is less likely to dry out or crack. This reduces the deepness of the scarring and the skin is stronger and healthier.
• There are stretch removal creams on the market that you can try that have a great mixture of vitamins and essential oils. Though they may not prevent them 100% they will help.
• Be careful with your weight gain as you do not want to gain it all at once. It should be steady and well paced. Your doctor will help. Weight gain usually impacts more after the sixth month when the tummy increases the skin doesn’t keep up.
• Massage the areas with coconut oil, almond oil or any other essential oil, or even better get your partner to do it while you relax and enjoy. The oils are good for not just moisturizing the top layer of skin but going deeper.
Use any or all of these pieces of advice to help your skin adjust to the new demands you are placing on it and prevent stretch marks so that the damage after birth is far less apparent.
