Pregnancy Tests – Determining Pregnancy Correctly
With pregnancy comes some obvious physical changes such as nausea, a bloated feeling and tender sometimes sore breasts. Of course the biggest physical difference is that you are not having your monthly periods. There are several ways to find out for sure if you are pregnant and should prepare for a baby arriving in a few months. There are online questions geared to assessing your condition, home pregnancy tests and of course you can make an appointment to see your doctor. Even if you choose the first two ways initially, you should still get a confirmation of a positive result from your doctor so that you can get their advice on having a healthy pregnancy.
Most women use home tests and it is often a joke that you have to pee on a stick to use get a result. Though that is one way, holding a stick in your urine stream, you can also pee in a sterile container and put the stick in it. After so many minutes the results show on the screen on the stick. Usually a line indicates a positive result and no line means the chances of being pregnant are very small. These home tests work by testing your urine for a chemical called hCG which women only produce when they are pregnant.
Of course the other method mentioned, online, there really is little proof using them. They simply ask questions about physical changes and periods and then advice you whether or not you need to take a home test and visit your doctor. There are many such online tests to select from but it is probably just quicker to get a home test and do it!
The best test of all is the one your doctor will do. It is similar to the home tests plus they give a pelvic exam. This way they can look for internal signs of pregnancy such as changes in the cervix. At this point you can talk about options and if you choose to carry to term, how to have a healthy pregnancy. Usually a woman is pretty sure she is pregnant before she visits the doctor, but it is a confirmation and the first step in prenatal care.
