Although there are two ways to find out if they are pregnant or not(clinic pregnancy tests and home pregnancy tests), most women prefer home ones firstly because they are much cheaper and then because they offer them the possibility to find out the truth about the possible pregnancy in the intimacy of their own homes. When they choose a certain test, they expect it(as it is normal) to solve their problem and to give them an accurate result, but sometimes they can have surprises.
What would you do, for example, if you would be in the following situation: missed period, but negative pregnancy test? What would you think? Are you pregnant? As most women decide to take a pregnancy test when they have a missed period, this situation is a very frequent one. But you don’t have to worry because there are many possible reasons for getting such a result although your period’s missing.
In most cases it was proved that the test result was an accurate one although there was a missed period. The specialists have proven that a missed period is not necessarily the pregnancy’s consequence, but it can be also provoked by other things, like: a very stressful period, an organic illness or a sudden loss of weight. So, if you are in the previous situation, you should see if there could be one of those reasons and retest after a few days.
On the other hand, a negative pregnancy test after a missed period could also be a false one. This doesn’t necessarily mean the test is not accurate, because there can be many external reasons, many of your possible mistakes which can lead to a false result. One of the most frequent mistakes regards the moment of taking the test. As they are very anxious to find out the truth, most women take it too early, therefore they get an inaccurate result.
Other frequent mistakes are those regarding the way of taking the test. You have to be very careful when you take it and follow exactly its instructions so that you can avoid a false result. Some of your possible mistakes could be:
- you read the test result too late and that second line which is supposed to indicate you that you are pregnant could already be evaporated
- the test stick was not saturated enough with your urine
- the cup you are using it for you urine could have soap or detergent leftovers which can also compromise the result.
As you can see, there could be many reasons for being in the frequent situation of a missed period but a negative pregnancy test; however, if you are still impatient you should see a doctor and find out what really happens.

Back on December 26, 2009 my period was only 3 days so then in Jan. it was only 2 days but when November came I missed my period so concidering I had never actually missed a period since i was 10 (when i started) but always been irregular so I automaticly thought i was pregnant I took 7 HPT & all was negative so I went to the docter & she done a blood test once again negative as well as a ultrasound & negative once again….So March came I started my period it was spotting at first then it went to normal its now May 15, 2010 & i’ve not had a period since March..I’m expericing weight gain lower back pains, pains where my overies are but not all the time just here & there I have an apointment w/my OB on the 20th for a pap smear so i will also check with her but i’ve been off of the pill for over a year now is it possible that in some form or matter that i could be pregnant?

Sorry to bother you guys with my problem/question.
I’m 23 years old and my last period was on 4/13 and my cycle is around 26/28 days. I had sex on 5/1, he did not use a condom for a couple seconds though. I have taken 4 different home urine tests on 3/15, 3/16, 3/17, and 3/20 all came back negative. I feel tired all the time, but this has been a problem since I was in middle school. And my nipples are a little tender but not my whole breasts. This is something which normally happens when I get my period.
I have read that if a pregnancy test comes up negative 15 days after that it is not a issue of pregnancy. Is this true?

hey, in feb i got my pd from the 11th-15th. march 19th-23. apr 16th-18th but spotted til the 20th(always around the same time) now this month i havent gotten it. I took a home pg test yesterday and right away it said neg before i can even look at it( i p’d on it). Then today i p’d in the cup at the docs office and it was neg also. Am i takin the test to early, or should i get a blood test? how long does the blood test take because i have an absess on my lower left tummy and i got sulfamethoxazole for it but it says i shouldnt take it if pg or suspect im pg….im goin crzy wat should i do??!?!?!?!

hey everyone..My last mentrual period was March 19 2010 and it is now june 1..i took 2 home pregnancy test about a month ago and they said positive. so i went to the dr and they took a blood test and it came back negative..but still no period for me.. i have no idea what is goin on..the dr scheduled me for an ultrasound so we can see whats wrong..if i am pregnant i am at very high risk to miscarriage or a tubal pregnancy as in 2007 i got the Essure birthcontrol procedure done after i had my 3rd child..Wish me luck!!

hi, I am a 20 year old mom and have been having some problems. my periods have no been reguler since the birth of my daughter which is now 2 1/2 but have not been no latter than a week behind.. i have now missed my second period over 2 weeks ago. i have been having white discharge, sore breast and pains in ovaries.. i also have this gut feeling i can not shake about being pregnant.. i do not wish to be pregnant but takes what ever life challanges are thrown my way.
also the man i have been with for almost 5 years has been fixed for about 2 years and since then has not had his sperm cound done.

I missed my period in May (22nd) took several types of HPT’s and all 3 came back positive over a 2 day timespan. On the 26th – 27th I had light bleeding (pink, dark brown) and just used about 1-2 pads. There was no cramping or clotting. About a week ago on June 5th I just felt that something wasn’t right – I had NO pregnancy symptoms at all, but I never had any to begin with either so it’s not like I “lost” them. So I took another HPT that AM and the next day in the AM and they both came back negative. I waited a week and took another test this AM and that too came back negative. So I’m just totally confused now. I have an appt. for an ultrasound on Monday (made that appt. after the 3 positives a few weeks ago). I’ve accepted that I’m not pregant, maybe that bleeding wasn’t implantation and it was a miscarriage? Luckily I never had a chance to get too excited so I’m not devastated or anything, just confused. Anybody have something similar happen to them, would appreciate some info. Thanks

The first day of my last period was May 11th and it ended on the 17th…..On May 28th I had a bit of brown spotting that ended the same day….I took a pregnancy test about 8 days ago and it was negative and I took one today and it was also negative. My breasts are quite sore, on and off stomach pains and bloating….I have also had some nausea spells but nothing lasting too long….AND I’m breaking out like crazy!!!!
If my period doesn’t come within a week, I’m definately seeing my doctor, but I’m just looking for someones opinion….

My last period started may26th and it last anywhere from 5 to 7 days. I am on birth control but I had unprotected sex on june 5th. On june 12th I woke up with sore nipples(hurts only when I rub or gently squeeze them) and a bloating feeling in my stomach. Over the next few days I have had cramping(sometimes it bad), vaginal bleeding(sometimes its red and sometimes it brown. started june 14th), I have pass a few blood clots, faint dizziness, the constant urge to urinate even if I have just went. I was nauseated for about an hour one day. mMy period is due on june 24th and today is the 16th. I have taken 3 test and they all were negative. Can I be pregnant? Should I test again?

I am late not by much, i was due for a cycle to start on the 14th of June, it is not the 22nd so about a week and a day. I have been haveing major issues, My cycle on May 17 was because i missed a pill while on vacation very light but lasted all week, with in 24hours my Period started, I decided it was beter just to let it go and start again. but with Graduation, and my two young sons when i got back from Vacation forgot the following sunday. so i let it go thinking i would start again next month. Me and my boyfriend alway use protection, condoms and pills, but the we missed two days last month with the condoms. after i concived our 2nd son on birth control, switching brands, I am now 8 days late i feel prego but then at times i don’t which is how i felt with my other two kids. but now i am getting negative test, i have made a doctors app for June 29th, my thinking is better safe then sorry. but i have read that after a week the likly hood i am pregnate is 1%, but after reading the internet it seem that there is a lot of women who don’t get a positive untill 7 or 8 weeks. i don’t remember how far along i was with my first two. did not really keep good track back then. but how posible is it not to get a positive?
also on a side note if you missd your Period and are still taking BC pill your not going to get a Period unless you stop taking bc pills
Hi! Just confused, my last period was last May 8, 2010 until now I missed my period. This is very unsusual cause Im having my period regularly. Me & my husband had an intercourse last May 19 before he went out of town for business purpose. Then he gets back last June 8, 2010 and had an intercourse. We’re usually doing it alternate and Im not using any contraceptive.
I tried to use a pregnancy test kit (urine test) twice but both produced a negative result?! Is there still a chance that I’m pregnant?? Appreciate your immediate response.

Ok..I have been on Depo for almost a year now..Stopped in June 10 had unprotected sex with husband …Haven’t had normal periods since starting Depo..With my first son I was able to feel when I ovulated and when Implantation happened and got a postive on preg test…
Now did feel ovulation and what I thought was Implantation on or around the 6th.,,Had several headaches, going alot to the bathroom and eating more than normal..Been testing several times following instructions to the T and used digital test too. All say neg…But have a feeling that there is something in my belly..It is now July and still no period..Have not breast fed my son since he was about 2 mths old but still am lactating small amounts of breast milk…Am going to the doctor sometime this week but was wondering if I could still be pregnant while getting neg on test…Never had thyroid issues..Please help me ?? I have a complicated story! last year ( 09 ) i had a misscariage in early july. since my body wasnt naturally letting go i had a D&C surgery to remove the baby. since then we have been trying to get pregnant howevre my husband is in the navy so he leaves all the time so its hard to be consistent in trying. normally my menstral cycle comes at the end of each month on the 23rd and lasts about 3 or 4 days with heavy flow. in march of 2010 i didnt get my period at all. instead i got it the 7th of April. and in May received it on the 17th. it is now the 22nd of july and i have yet to have my period since May 17th! right after my last menstral cycle in May i had a pap which indicated evrything was normal. but now no period? I have taken 5 pregnancy tests since my last period and they were all at home test and all turned out negative! im very concerned and think i am pregnant!My boobs are tender and im peeing evry 5 min. it fels like and im tired more than usual. my last test was on the 16th of July. i have set up an appointment with my doctor but she cant get me in till Aug 5th! so i think ill try taking another in home test on the 26th of july. if im not pregnant what else could it be? please help!

Okay so I found out a few months ago that I have hypothyroidism and my doctor started treating me for it and he said that this will help regulate anything that is out of control. Anyways I had regular periods for like 2 or 3 months and then I missed my period this month. My last period was June 11th and my periods are between 25-28 days long. Anyways I usually get cramps when I am about to start and they let me know to prepare. I was having cramps about 2 weeks ago and my period never started, then last week I was getting a sharp twinge and this usually happens when I am ovulating (no joke). So I thought well now would be a good time to try and maybe I was ovulating late. So me and my husband had sex the day before and the weekend before these twinges (they started last Wednesday) and I have not got them since. I still have not started my period, don’t feel like I am going to and I have tested negative. What should I do and does anyone have any idea of what could be going on?
