Looking at What Can Affect a Pregnancy Test

The pregnancy tests you do at home are now usually almost one hundred per cent accurate, as long as you follow the instructions properly and carefully and do it at the right time. When a woman is trying to conceive they are usually very keen to perform a test as early as they can and they expect the results to still be accurate. But what can affect a pregnancy test ?
There are a few factors that determine how early a test can be taken, the first of which is how long it has been since ovulation happened and if there is a pregnancy, when the now fertilized egg implanted.
Also the brand of the test is a factor as not all are exactly the same or as sensitive. However all are pretty accurate in detecting the pregnancy hormone hCG, even if it is present in very small amounts. Knowledge of the whole process will better help in understanding the timing of your test.
When an egg is released from the ovaries, this is called ovulation. After it has been released it goes into the fallopian tube and it can only live for 12 to 24 hours unless it is fertilized. Sperm however can live for 3 to 5 days so if there is already sperm there in the tube, the odds of fertilization occurring go up. Once fertilized the egg will stay in the tube for a few days and then it will descend into the uterus and implant itself into the rich uterus lining.
Until this implantation happens the body does not know it is pregnant, but at that point the body ensures the uterine lining is maintained until the formation of the placenta. Then hCG is produced and can be detected by tests after a day of being implanted. So doing the math it can take three to ten days (though on average it is five to seven) after ovulating before the hCG is present. But levels are low at first, increasing rapidly as they double each day. It is the pregnancy hormone that causes the symptoms of pregnancy.
It is possible to see a positive result on a home pest as early as 7 days after ovulation, but realistically nine days or more is more likely, and in the less sensitive tests it can even be as long as 14 days. Added to that is the fact some women do not have enough of the hormone and so it can go as long as 17 days or more.
After looking at some of the reasons that can affect a pregnancy test, we can conclude that in general the advice is to wait until you have a missed period to be sure of the results you get.
