Late period? Pregnancy test is the key

Late period could be a sign of pregnancy but not a sure one, therefore most women are looking for a self method of finding out the truth, since a late period doesn’t always prove to be a relevant sign. So far, women could only rely on the clinic tests to get an accurate result. As there were many disadvantages like those tests’ price or the scarceness of intimacy, most of them were choosing to find out the truth later, when other signs were about to show up.

Late period’s delay could be as well provoked by other things like: a very stressful period, an organic illness or a suddenly loss of weight. Fortunately, nowadays we can find out the truth without going to a clinic to take a pregnancy test because recently an alternative has appeared: home pregnancy test. Both pregnancy test types have the same principle of working: detection of the presence of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in a woman’s body. Unlike the clinic pregnancy tests, which are based on blood, home pregnancy tests are based on urine and therefore they can detect the hCG later than clinic tests can.

Most women’s choice nowadays is a home pregnancy test when they want to know if they are pregnant or not. Taking one is very easy – but what would you think if you had a late or even a missed period, and your pregnancy test result were a negative one? This is a frequent situation for many women, so here are some reasons for that happening.

Such a situation could appear if you don’t take the pregnancy test at the right moment. But now you are probably wondering: When is the right moment? Well, the doctors recommend to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after ovulation. But, there were many women who got an accurate result even 7 days after ovulation. This proper moment depends on the presence and level of hCG in the woman’s body. This hCG is known as the pregnancy hormone and it is produced by placenta after a fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall (and that won’t occur until 6 days after ovulation). So the earliest moment you may get an accurate result is 7 days after ovulation, but the surest one you can get is 2 weeks after.

Another reason could be the low sensitivity of the pregnancy test. Maybe your test is not sensitive enough to detect the presence of hCG in your body, so you should take a more sensitive one and retest.

If your period is a regular one and you have taken the pregnancy test on a proper time, following the instructions exactly, but your test result is still a negative one, then just might not be pregnant and your period is late from other causes.
