It is possible to get a false positive result when taking a home pregnancy test, but it is rare, it is far more common to get a false negative. A false positive result can occur if you have been taking fertility drugs or treatment that included hCG shots. It is also possible that you misread the display window and took it to mean positive when it had timed out, or actually meant negative. There are also some medications that could affect the results, so check with your doctor. If you are certain you read and followed the instructions exactly and that the result you got was a real positive, and you have not taken hCG fertility treatment, and the stick was not exposed to chemicals that could have affected the result, the other possibility is that you are pregnant and the bleeding you are having is implantation bleeding not menstrual bleeding.
Implantation bleeding happens when the fertilized egg reaches the uterus and implants into the lining. It does not happen to all women, but if it does the bleeding is lot lighter than your normal period, more pink or brown and spotted.
