Five Ways to Deal With Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

An amazing 9 out of 10 women have a problem with stretch marks during pregnancy, for some they are faint, for others deep. All women who find out they are expecting want to know if they can prevent them. Thankfully the answer is yes, at least to some degree, and it is easier to prevent deep scarring than to try and treat them after the event.

Your scarring depends on how much weight you gain, genetic history and what you do to look after yourself and your skin when pregnant. The stretch marks affect the stomach, thigh, buttocks and breasts. They happen because of weight gain that is too fast leading to skin fibers tearing causing scarring. Therefore you need to improve the skin’s elasticity and health. Here are five things you can do.

Here are five ways to deal with in stretch marks during pregnancy:

1. Moisturize your skin as often as you can using oils, creams or lotions. Start this regime from the moment you discover you are carrying using ointments that have Vitamin E and A. Many creams also have cocoa butter in them although be wary of spending a lot of money on expensive creams that claim this solves the problem, as research says this is not necessarily true.
2. Take your supplements! Vitamins are important for your skin and your body’s health as well as your baby. They make sure you are nutritionally balanced.
3. To help the blood circulate use a wash cloth or body brush to massage the problem areas when showering or bathing.
4. Water is very important as it keeps you and your skin hydrated. Those that drink a lot of water have less skin problems.
5. Watch your weight particularly sudden large weight gains. Keep a healthy lifestyle and eat a balanced diet, which is good for you, your skin and your baby. Foods good for the skin are ones that have Zinc like fish and nuts. Also eat foods with Vitamin A and C and D such as citrus fruits, milk and carrots and healthy proteins like eggs and skinless chicken.

Now although these pieces of advice can minimize the stretch marks it may not totally prevent them. If you are genetically prone for example there is only so much control you have. But these five steps will at the very least reduce the scarring and its unsightliness. Do remember that these scars are not going to be permanently deep. Over time they fade and become less obvious.
