A pregnancy is a very serious thing, it’s something that can definitely change your life, and that’s the reason for which most women become anxious to find out if they are pregnant or not. Fortunately, they don’t have to go to a clinic anymore to take a test.. They now have the possibility to find out alone in their own home and at a lower price using the home pregnancy tests.
It is very simple to take a home pregnancy test because you have all the steps explained in the test’s instructions. But sometimes, some confusions can appear about the test result for example, which are not necessary explained in those instructions and can generate other questions.
A very common question, for example, could be: Is the first pregnancy test result a negative one? There were so many cases of women who got a negative result on her first tests that they started to make it a rule. Well, it is a mistake to take this possibility as a rule because there are many possible explanations for getting your first result as a negative one.
First reason, and the most probable, could be the moment you take the test. As you probably know, those tests’ role is to detect the hCG hormone in a woman’s body. This hormone, called the pregnancy hormone too, appears in a woman’s body almost only when she is pregnant. But, even you are pregnant, it can’t appear in your body until 6 days after ovulation. That is very simple to understand: this hormone is produced by placenta after an fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall, and this implantation does not occur until 6 days after ovulation. So, if you take the test before those 6 days you will surely get a negative answer, because, even if you are pregnant, there is no sufficient hCG to be detected yet.
Of course that it’s possible to take the test after those 6 days and get a negative result, even if it is a false one. That could be happening because of your different organism which can act different and the placenta can produce the hCG later than 6 days after ovulation.
There could also be other reasons to get a negative answer for the first time and one of these could be your inattention when you read the test instructions and take the test. There are some other things which you have to be careful at:
- the test’s sensitivity (it is indicated to be a more sensitive test to be able to detect even a small amount of hCG)
- the best-before date (an expired test is very likely to get you a false result)
- the moment of the day you take the test (it is recommended to take it in the morning because your first urine has a bigger amount of hCG and it is easier to detect)
- the moment you read the result (if you read it too late you can get an “evaporation line” and you won’t know how to interpret it)
As a conclusion, there is no rule of getting your first pregnancy test result as a negative one. There could be many possible reasons, but if you follow all these instructions exactly you will get an accurate result (it is likely to get a negative one, but that may be because your are not pregnant).
