Most women know what a pregnancy test is and they use it every time they are not sure about their pregnancy. Although many of them don’t know how these tests work, yet they trust in their results because they have an accuracy rate of over 99%, and that’s their first choice. But, what could they think if the test result is a false positive one? A false positive pregnancy test is a test that shows you are pregnant even if you’re not. What is there to do in such a situation? What to think? How to act?
Getting a false pregnancy test positive is a possible situation, but is quite rarely. However, the accuracy of those home pregnancy tests is not affected in the end because there can be many other reasons for that happening and the reasons aren’t in correlation with the test system, but rather with people not knowing how to use it – meaning that most tests are good ones.
Firstly, one of the most common mistakes is not reading the test directions enough carefully. If you read more carefully those instructions you can remark there’s a limit time of checking and interpreting the test result. If you are too anxious and you don’t wait enough to see the result you can get a false one, but, on the other hand, if you wait too long for checking it you could also get a false result. So, you should follow up the directions for not having similar surprises. Also, you should assure that your test is not an expired one..so check out the best-before date!
Another important reason of getting to such a result could be the exposure to soap, or other substances. Some women prefer to use a cup for collecting her urine and then to use this urine for taking the pregnancy test. Here could appear a problem: if you use a cup for this, make sure it is a very clean one and it hasn’t any leftover soap or detergent deposits because those can lead to a false test result (a false positive pregnancy test in our case).
As many women already know, those pregnancy tests’ role is to detect the presence of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in a woman’s body. This hormone, besides known as the pregnancy hormone, usually appears in a woman’s body when she gets pregnant. But there could be some exceptions, some situations of getting this hormone in your body without being pregnant. One of those situations could be met by those women who are using hCG injections in order to get pregnant. So there is a possible explanation for the false positive pregnancy test: the pregnancy test detects the presence of the hCG injected, but not a produced one. Also, there are some other drugs that can lead to a false positive result: anti-Parkinson’s medicines, anti-convulsants, some tranquilizers and certain diuretics.
The trophoblastic tumors, that grow in the reproductive system of a woman, can cause, as well, a false positive pregnancy test. They can induce a pregnancy feeling because they also produce hCG. So, if you aren’t in any of these situations related in the previous paragraph you should see a doctor, because when discovered early, those tumors can not cause severe problems.

wil a pregnancy test results b effected by drinking alchol. is it best waitin 24 hrs after having drinking alchol
a pregnancy test is best taken with the morning urine which is the least affected by all possible chemicals.
alcohol may affect by simply being a liquid which dilutes the hcg and may result in a faint result.
Me and my boyfriend have just recently last month (july) started trying to conceive. We had sex about 3 times in my expected fertility time frame then the day of and the day after my predicted ovulation date. About 10 days after my ovulation date I got my period which was really early (I usually have a perfect 28day cycle but this one was an 18day cycle) so I started about 10 or 11days after ovulation, it was moderate the 1st day looking kind of like a solomon color then the next 6 days I spotted very light being a pinkish color, I usually have a heavier flow. Its 3 weeks since me and him have had unprotected sex but since I already had my period the beggining of this month and my cycle has changed I am suppose to have my period on the 26th of this month as well. I am only 19. Could it be that my body is just changing or should I take a ept test? Would 3 weeks be to soon to take one? P.s. I have been having mild symptoms like being extremely tired,a little moody, headaches, and having menstral like cramps.
Lisa,
just take a test!
3 weeks is not too early.
if you still don’t understand your body’s behavior, visit a doctor.
My husband and I had a weekend together before he deployed and it was around the ovulation cycle we both were not trying but were okay if we did get pregnant. I was a day late for my cycle took an EPT test Digital. Read directions properly and it read “pregnant”. I had one Dark ale the at an early dinner on st.patricks day the day before the test. I swore I was pregnant never even heard of a false positive then 4 days later started bleeding everyone told me I was having a miscaraige and so I thought this was the case. Went to the doctors did blood work and it came back today with saying I was not pregnant . They said I never was… This whole experience has been very stressful and I am not clear on how to understand it.
