Exercise For an Easier Pregnancy Part 1

Just because you are pregnant does not mean that you should stop, (or not start) exercising regularly. In the past exercise may have been disapproved of when pregnant, there are still some older women in gyms today that frown at younger pregnant women working out. But exercise at this time is important, you are helping both yourself and the baby, so do not let people like that put you off.
As long as you are healthy and you have discussed your exercise routine with your doctor and he or she has approved it, exercise is in fact recommended. It has many benefits such as:
• Preventing too much weight gain which means that getting back to pre-pregnancy weight is a lot easier after the birth.
• Helps prevent gestational diabetes.
• Makes you feel better physically and emotionally.
• Helps to relive the stress and tension you have.
• Builds up the stamina you may need for the labor and delivery. (Some of us are unlucky enough to have labor times of 19 hours!)
• You can build up the strength of your joints, bones and muscles, making carrying that extra person around a little easier.
If you are a pregnant woman who was already exercising before conceiving then as long as you have no health conditions you can carry on with that program. If you were not exercising before then this is a great reason to start doing so. Your exercise will be easier during the pregnancy which will make transitioning to full on exercise after the birth easier. It is common to be more tired during a pregnancy particularly in the first trimester and so exercise may tire you more easily than it did before.
Remember to also make sure you have a good diet and that you are keeping yourself hydrated, particularly while you are working out. Small meals more often throughout the day is a good idea. After the first trimester a woman needs about 3000 calories a day, more if she is active and exercising. After all you are fueling yourself and your baby now.
