After pregnancy test – How accurate is it?
A pregnancy is something very serious for all women, irrespective of their desires, so it’s very important for them to find out about it as early as possible – therefore when they want to choose a sure method to find out if they are pregnant or not; that’s why they are very interested in its accuracy.
The most chosen such method is the pregnancy test, therefore one of the most frequent women questions is that regarding the pregnancy tests’ accuracy. Fortunately, the answer is fairly simple, as most of those tests have the accuracy level specified on their prospect; but the answer becomes more complicated when the question regards an after pregnancy test.
First of all, the accuracy of an after pregnancy test depends on the moment you take the test; meaning if you are taking it too early, you can get a false result. What does this mean? For a better understanding you should know that those pregnancy tests are working by detecting the hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone in a woman’s body, which appears only when she gets pregnant and it remains in her body even after the end of the pregnancy. For example, if it happens you to have an early miscarriage, this hCG will stay in your body sometimes even 2 weeks after that. That means if you are taking a pregnancy test recently after a pregnancy (within 2 weeks), it is very likely to get a positive result, which could be a false one.
Now you are probably wondering how to find out if that detected hCG is from your previous pregnancy or from a new one. But you don’t have to worry because it is fairly simple: take many blood tests in a row and then look at their hCG levels – if the hCG level decreases then it is from your previous pregnancy, but if it increases it is from a new one.
As a conclusion, the accuracy of an after pregnancy test depends on the moment you take it: if you take it too early, for example in 2 weeks since your pregnancy has ended, it is very possible to get an inaccurate result; if you want to get a more accurate one, follow the rule: the later you take it, the more accurate result you get.
